Only for an Hour

Dear Jack,

I just left you with the sitter for the very first time.

It was only for an hour while I took your sister to the pool.

But it still felt very funny to be leaving you so soon.

    Oh, she is! We don't belabor the whole Jack's too little to (fill in the blank) thing around here. Some book I read pointed out that doing that too much just says, "and therefore you are better than your brother," but Sydney was fascinated by the idea that she and would go anywhere without Jack, so I finally had to tell her, "Jack is too little to go swimming," which she has repeated several times, so I know the whole thing is making her feel special.
