Dear John Patrick,
You are very confused these days. We have taught you that your name is John Nolen and now there is a very tall, lanky man in our house saying that he is Jon Nolen.
One day the letter “H” and a little bit of life experience
regarding the commonality of both your first name and your last (though rarely
spelled with that “E”) will help you make sense of it all. For now, we have taken to calling you “John
Patrick” and are clear to call that other Jon Nolen “Uncle Jon.”
Uncle Jon, who has been in the Navy your entire life, has
just received new orders, transferring him from the George Washington, in Japan
to the Dwight D. Eisenhower, in Norfolk,
VA.
In between assignments, he has a roughly thirty day leave. He landed in Houston
on Sunday, November 13th and on Thursday, November 17th,
he came up to Georgetown. We were already planning on seeing him in Houston on the 19th, but he went ahead and come to us a little bit early, mostly to spend time with your
daddy. There was a gaming session
scheduled for that Friday, and Uncle Jon loves playing Dungeons and Dragons as
much as your dad. His presence in the
house for these two days, though, turned out to be a nice bonus for you as it
took that time for you to warm up to your uncle.
So about the time we had planned on seeing him, Saturday
November 19th, you and he were fast friends.
As long as he didn’t try to claim to be named Jon Nolen.
Love,
Mom
